See Hot Pics, Video, Review of Dancehall Tunnup–Spragga Benz & General Degree @ Revival 09.12.15

Dancehall Tunnup turned out to be a very nice event last Saturday inside Revival. When I arrived at the venue shortly after 11:00 pm, there was already a steady line up of people outside the doors, many sporting festive moods despite the rain and groggy pre-fall temperatures. I couldn't recall ever being inside Revival before (I'm sure I've been there though), but I immediately took a liking to the venue, a perfect size I thought for the 300 - 350 [...]

As a dancehall journalist I get to see many Reggae shows coming to the Toronto area.  I’ll admit that over the years, I have witnessed the Reggae stage show scene enter into a state of regression in terms of failing to showcase any new or rarely seen before artists, rather there is a high repeat-return factor for the same shows and artists coming to town.  Over the past ten years or so, many artists coming to town are artists that have been [...]

By |2017-09-17T10:22:15-04:00August 12th, 2015|2015 Pics, Entertainment News, Hot Pics|

Our ReggaeMania.com team arrived just before 2:00 PM at the Markham Fair Grounds for Jambana 2015 – Day One. The day seemed promising; the weather was holding up – sunny and hot and everything was well organized at the entry gates. Once inside the grounds, surveying the crowd, it seemed a bit sparse, but, it was early still. The festival kicked off at 1:00 PM. Our crew had already missed a few performances, one being, The Human Rights Band. Backstage, [...]

See our Hot Pics, Videos and Review of Timeless Classics ft Sanchez & Freddie at Sound Academy

By |2017-09-17T10:22:16-04:00July 6th, 2015|Entertainment News|

Good afternoon - this is Ron Nelson shouting out all of the fans who attended the TIMELESS CLASSICS concert last night at Sound Academy featuring Sanchez and Freddie McGregor live in concert. The show was a success from all accounts, and by midnight, there were close to 2,500 people inside the venue (mu unofficial guesstimate). In terms of audience dynamics – I should point out that the Timeless audience was made up of an older more mature reggae fan base, [...]

R.I.P “Shaggy” from Morning Ride

By |2017-09-17T10:22:17-04:00May 24th, 2015|Entertainment News, Lifestyle, News|

Last Wednesday evening (May 20th), it was reported on the news that 33-year old Marlon Lennox Mason aka "Shaggy", was gunned down in front of his car after leaving a barbeque-birthday party on Campbell Avenue in Toronto's Junction Triangle area (Dupont & Landsdowne).  It is reported that last Wednesday evening, "Shaggy" walked to his car, parked on the street, alone, after saying goodbye to his friends.  A few moments after, people at the barbeque heard gunshots and found Mr. Mason [...]

Goodbye CHRY, Hello Vibe 1055 FM

By |2017-09-17T10:22:17-04:00May 13th, 2015|Entertainment News, Lifestyle, News|

So, what’s up with CHRY? If you tuned into CHRY 105.5 FM today, you would have noticed the absence of radio hosts. Since Friday, May 01, 2015, all regularly scheduled programmes have been cut and have been replaced with a computer generated 'urban' music stream that will play continuously (24/7) until a new station - Vibe 1055 FM emerges mid-June. I admit, I was completely caught off guard by all of this. I had not heard anything through the grapevine, [...]

The show was called “Legends”, and Easter Thursday in Toronto was highlighted by none other than the “Fireman” himself, ‘legendary’ artist Capleton (St. Mary, Jamaica) bunnin' a sweet fire inside Toronto’s Sound Academy Nightclub.  Just under 1,000 Capleton fans, despite having to wait for a late 2am showtime, would not be let down, as Capleton, backed by the Prophecy Band, put on yet another excellent performance from start to finish, steadily [...]

Vybz Kartel Is Incarcerated But Not Silenced

By |2017-09-17T10:22:18-04:00March 17th, 2015|Entertainment News, News|

Last Friday the 13th of March signified one year of the "nightmare of King Street" (for Babylon) as Kartel still reigns supreme for all 365 days since conviction... From @ghettopublisher / Kartel Co-Author @realgazawriter There was champagne all over uptown Jamaica on March 13, 2014; politicians jockeyed to take credit for it; the police released statements of joy; some fanatical pastors and bourgeois Jamaica sang praises – March 13, 2014 was the night a jury disregarded and ignored tampered evidence, [...]

R.I.P. Peter Rankin – Gone But Not Forgotten

By |2017-09-17T10:22:18-04:00March 15th, 2015|Entertainment News, News|

His Facebook Page says it all -“Born in Kingston, Jamaica…I’ve been singing from in the 70's, shared stage with Brigadier Jerry, Michigan and Smiley, Phillip Fraser, Sammy Dread etc. Working on a new album coming soon…still doing shows all over and currently living in Canada. My goal is to take the music to a higher level, by still doing roots and culture for the world. I love all music”. The world of Reggae music has lost another great one as [...]
