Another nice Saturday Night ReggaeMania Radio show on 100.7 CHIN-FM.  Again, I seem to be splitting a two hour show literally into two halves – the first being consciousness and love with a slow tempo and the second being a lot more upbeat – following  a typical dancehall tradition.

Musically, the show featured new music with hot songs by Sizzla, Nkrumah, Steele, Cocoa Tea, Romain Virgo, Richie Stephens, Prezident Brown, Etana, Busy Signal, Tessanne Chin, Chuck Fenda, Hezron, Further Notice, Chris Martin, Cecile, Tommy Lee, Chino, Beres Hammond, Lindo P., Chi Ching, Father Price / Eyesus / Fire Lion, Fire Kid Steenie, Konshens, Mavado, Chuckle Berry, Anthony Malvo, Captain Barkey, Tiffanie Malvo, Jr. Flex, Kaisha Lee, Michie Mee, Beenie Man, Aisha, Incline, Munga, and Idonia.

I involuntarily was under restraint during this show, as I felt in need of therapy like so many other people, especially parents, as the day prior, the world heard the news about the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut where a heavily armed 20-yr old gunman opened fire after entering an elementary school  leaving 26 people dead including 20 children.

This very sad piece of history however, to me, was bigger than any radio show and I just couldn’t pretend to be happy or hyped like a radio personality should be – not under these circumstances…I was not feeling celebratory.  The fact that so many of those violently murdered were young children – kindergarten through fourth grade was so truly sad, even bringing tears from U.S. President Barack Obama himself.  If I didn’t believe in monsters before, I certainly do now.
