Chesswood
Arena Clash | 1991 | Winner: Nobody offically won,
as the dance ended in gunshots. Some
of the sounds involved (we're having trouble recollecting all the facts on this
clash) included Torpedo, Soul to Soul, Tempo, and Stereo Prophet, Upsetter, Hi-Tek...a
6th missing- This
infamous clash had great vibes in the beginning but a very nasty ending where
reportedly, about 2 dozen gunshots later rang inside the party, resulting in Banner,
Redman, and a 3rd person, shot and many injured (broken bottles) .It is not a
happy event to look back at, as this dance reshaped the future of our local dancehall
scene, while allowing authorities reasons to start monitoring it and trying to
shut it down. One witness reported Soul To Soul (with Rosa and Ian) was leading
the clash before problems ended the dance. This was the last Yard-Style dance
where six sound systems strung up six separate audio systems under one roof. Promoters
charged $25 - $30 for admission.
-tune Rosa played when shot
fire had Panhead, TK, and Dirtsman (had all the other sound names in clash, upset
all the soundman, had to forward tune about 6 times, Ian and Rosa was playing
the sound, no 45's played by Soul To SOul, pure Dub Plates -about 1,000
people in attendance | - Blackat
Vs Digital @ The Swan Club (5415 Dundas St. W.) Friday July 2nd 1993
Winner:
??? I wasn't there, but I will get the info on this one.
| - Red
Flame vs King Turbo 1993 (?)
Winner: Red Flame
One of the 1st Canadian sound clashes. King Turbo's lost this clash, and Red Flame
never gave them an opportunity for a rematch, despite King Turbo's rise to success |
- Heavyweight
vs King Turbo @ Church Hall @ Finch/Birchmount
Winner:
King Turbo Heavyweight was expected to win as they were at present,
the talk of the East as far as new, hot and upn'coming sounds were concerned.
Plus, this clash would be in a venue directly in their East end neighbourhood.
King Turbo prevailed, and this victory spelled the end of the Heavyweight uprising,
and ultimately, the end of Heavyweight, who locked-off permanently shortly afterwards.

W.) Winner: This classic clash ended in a virtual
draw, although Soul To Soul took the trophy. Lawrene brough out a coffin as Soul
To Soul drew the burial tune Historically,it will rank as one of
the most exciting sound clashes ever held in Canada. See Flyer. Ian and Rosa |
- King
Turbo vs Black Reaction
Saturday June 22nd '96 @ La Gioconda (1736 Weston
Rd.) Winner: King Turbo This was a
pivotal clash for King Turbo, who defeated Black Reaction in a venue located in
Reaction's own backyard (Jungle). King Turbo's proved that despite coming from
the city's East end and despite not possessing as many dubplates as the red hot
Reaction, they could still use a strong foundation collection to kill a sound.
Aiding their efforts would be a very loyal, loud and mobile clash audience giving
them the necessary confidence needed for victory. |
- Superfresh
vs King Turbo
Winner: Superfresh
A self-proclaimed victory by Superfresh, who were also the promoters of the dance.
Super Fresh's dub collection was strong for this clash, while King Turbo's foundation
still held them on, but only by their fingernails. Despite a loud backative and
a constant retreat to foundation in every response or counteraction, Super Fresh
declared themselves the champs as they were leading before the dance would end
prematurely by gunshots (people walked out). To date, this has been King Turbo's
final soundclash, as they have since then locked themselves off the clash market. |
- Black
Mellody vs Studio Mixx @ Joe Banana's
Winner:
Black Mellody A victory for Black Mellody, a relatively unknown
underdog sound from Brampton, over the hot and dub-heavy Studio Mixx. Studio Mixx's
selector was a little too hype, impatient, and overconfident. Scoota from Black
Mellody however was calm, cool, cunning and collected. He earned his victory relatively
easily due to good preparation. |

Super
Fresh vs Jaro @ Vanity Lounge 1997 (2241 Midland Ave.) Winner:
No Winner This could have been a victory for Super Fresh, who had
the vibes before deciding to deviate from concentrating on Jaro, and instead verbally
and musically attacked ckln DJ Ron Nelson, ultimately resulting in Super Fresh
loosing momentum and the dance ending prematurely when fighting started in the
venue. There were lots of gunshots outside. At certain points, patrons who had
ran out of the club due to the gunshots inside, were running back inside (in groups
of 50's and 100's)when witnessing the gunplay meeting them outdoors. It was a
scary night, and probably luck for Trooper that the results of the clash was in
the end, inconsequential. |
- Rodigan,
Stonelove, Bus Da Dance @ Shivani Banquet Hall (181 Rexdale Blvd.)
Winner:
No Winner Sunday August 31st '97 This was not supposed to be
a clash, but after conflicts between Super Fresh and Ron Nelson, and then Stonelove
suddenly starting a funclash, Ron Nelson let off, and performed admirably in his
first unofficial clash performance. The dance ended 10 minutes after Ron's departure
from the turntables when the dance got shot up - really shot up, inside...outside...about
300 shots and nobody getting shots but lots getting cut up and trampled, some
hospitalized. |
- Indica Vs
Lovechild
Winner:
No Winner After
a promising 1st round performance by Gary and Lovechild, Indica never got a chance
to proove themselves. This Ron Nelson Productions/Vibes Promotions clash was shot
up after Indica's first two songs. The majority of the crowd exited the venue
due the gunplay and the dance ended. |
- Body
Rock vs Black Mellody @ Club Epiphany April 2001
