🇨🇦WHAT IS FULLY LOADED 2023?

Ron Nelson’s Fully Loaded (Canada) is an all-dubplate sound clash series held yearly in Toronto where local and international sounds are invited to clash over a series of nights in order to make it to the finals where they compete for a mega jackpot cash prize, championship trophies, and are are crowned as the year’s FL champion.

Fully Loaded has a rich history, starting in the 2001, and provides a platform for all serious clash sounds to earn valuable experience clashing on the big stage. Canada today, has a rich history or championship calibre clash sounds, and we are proud to say that the majority, if not all of them, have all benefited from their participation in past Fully Loadeds.

A Fully Loaded clash series is a fast-moving clash tournament featuring very manageable 6-8 minute playing times for competitors. It is likely that 3 or 4 clashes will take place over a 2-month period of eliminations before a champion is crowned. Just like in any tournament, there may be favourites, but when luck combines with skill, anyone can win on a given day.

🇨🇦WHEN & WHERE IS FULLY LOADED 2023?

Fully Loaded is usually a 3-night event, but this decision depends on the total amount of sounds who sign up, it could be 1 ,2,3 or 4-night event, based on demand.

1️⃣🇨🇦FL NIGHT O1:
The first night is scheduled for Saturday July 22nd in Scarborough at Twilight Nightclub (55 Nugget Ave).
Door open 8:30 PM
Sounds draw for playing positions 9 PM
Clash starts 9:30 PM
Clash ends approximately 3:00 am – 3:30 AM

2️⃣  FL NIGHT O2: Date & Location TBA.
There is usually a 1, 2,3, or 4-week period between Night O1 and 02
The venue may is likely to change for night 02, but the event follows the same structure as N01.

3️⃣🇨🇦FL NIGHT 03: The Finals
Date & Location TBA   – More than likely, and hopefully, depending on demand, FL 2023 will be a 3-night event.
The date for the Night 03 FL Finals is still TBA, but expect it to be sometime in September 2023.

🇨🇦FL EVENT STRUCTURE, PLAYING TIMES & ROUNDS

🇨🇦ANY SOUND CAN WIN ON ANY GIVEN NIGHT!

Any sound can win FL on a good night, as long as they can handle themselves for up to 5 rounds of 6-minutes minimum, 8-minutes maximum, and one round of chune-fi-chune, all dub plates, no 45’s, no-playbacks.Do you see why we say any sound can win on a given night, only because it’s only 26 minutes total (maximum playing time) for the two sounds who make it to tune-fi-tune, the closing round of the clash, at which point the clock is turned off as we look for the winner of a 7-10 tune showdown.

🇨🇦UP TO 30 SOUNDS CAN ENTER FULLY LOADED, BUT WE WON’T KNOW UNTIL THE CUT OFF TIME!

Up to 30 Sounds can enter, a deadline or cut off date for participants will soon be announced.

🇨🇦30 SOUNDS ARE DIVIDED INTO 3 GROUPS!

24 of the 30 Sounds are divided into two clash groups
1st set of (up to) 12 Sounds Clash Night O1 – 3 Sounds Advance To N03 Finals
2nd set of (up to) 12 Sounds Clash Night 02 – 3 more Sounds Advance To N03 Finals
The two clash groups will clash on two separate elimination nights where after it’s all said and done, three sounds (N01 winner and two runners up) from each night get to advance to the FL N03 Finals

🇨🇦WILL THE NIGHT 03 FINAS FEATURE SOUNDS WHO DIDN’T CLASH IN NIGHTS 01 & 02?

(Up to) 12 Sounds Clash on Night 03, including 6 sounds from the N01 & N02 Eliminations (3+3=6), plus the defending FL Champion (6+1=7), and & up to 5 other big sounds (7+5=12) who get a buy into the Finals (they didn’t have to clash on N01 or N02 to be be on the final night)
These 5 sounds are hand picked at the discretion of the promoters and designed to increase the level and quality of competition with a fairly balanced clash, as well as to boost attendance since new and young sounds (and out of town sounds) sometimes have no fan bases or Toronto following.
The 5 sounds will still have to register to enter FL, pay their $100 jackpot entry fee, and will be publicized in advance of the event.

🇨🇦A PANEL OF JUDGES ARE USED TO SCORE EACH SOUND IN OUR FL CLASHES!

Crowd response counts in every clash, and often is the only deciding factor, but crowd response is only one crucial criteria in winning FL. We use judges to score our clashes and to eliminate bias. Our judges are equipped with score sheets with a variety of criteria for getting marks. Each round and each sound is scored by a group of celebrity judges made up of respected veteran selectors from our sound clash scene.

🇨🇦HOW MUCH CASH CAN MY SOUND WIN IF WE COMPETE IN FULLY LOADED?

$2500 + Trophy to N3 winner
$500 + Trophy to N3 2nd Place
$250 + Trophy to N3 3rd Place
$500 + Trophy to N2 Winner
$500 + Trophy to N1 Winner

🇨🇦WHAT IS A JACKPOT CLASH? WHY SO I HAVE TO PAY A $100 ENTRANCE FEE?

Sounds are not paid to be in Fully Loaded, but to help create a quality grand prize, and to make sure you take the competition seriously and actually show up, we charge a $100 admission fee and put 100 percent of it in the Fully Loaded $4,250 jackpot.
Ideally, if 24 sounds compete in Fully Loaded, $2400 goes into the jackpot, the promoter making up the balance of the $4,250 paid out to sounds by the conclusion of the FL clash series.
This makes the FL event worth it for the winning sounds, with up to a minimum $2,500 awarded to the winner, who, if was also night 1 or 2 winner, would have won $3,000 when adding the $500 elimination round cash prize to their overall earnings.
If sounds refuse to pay their jackpot fee, they cannot enter FL. There is one exception…

🇨🇦MY SOUND IS NOT FROM ONTARIO, DO I STILL HAVE TO PAY AN ENTRY FEE?

Sounds from the USA, Ottawa, Montreal, etc., who enter FL will be required to pay a refundable $100 entry fee which is refunded at the time they reach Toronto on the day of the clash.
This is another reason why the jackpot concept works, we refund this money from the jackpot as a fair-play contribution gesture for out-of-town sounds towards any hotel, travel and hospitality costs when having to come to Toronto to clash.
In cases where an out of town sound is represented by a selector or crew who resides in Toronto, there will be no refund, the money stays in the jackpot.

🇨🇦TICKETS, WRISTBANDS, GUEST LISTS

Each sound, despite the number of people in the sound, is entitled to 2 complimentary tickets, separate from he wristbands given to the actual members of the sound.
There is no guest list for sounds, we give you physical tickets in advance, and wristbands to your crew when the team arrives, it is up to you to allocate them accordingly. Sound men, please walk with your ID on the night of your clash and gather your crew outside so you can enter the venue as one team at one time.

🇨🇦IF MY SOUND ARRIVE LATE, WILL WE BE ELIMINATED FROM FULLY LOADED?

Because things run on a strict time clock at Fully Loaded, and because there are so many sounds, we need to eliminate sounds who mess up for a variety of reasons, but the first is their ability to be timely, punctual and professional. The rules are strict but fair and clear;
Sounds competing are advised to arrive at the venue at least one-hour previous to the event 930 PM start time, and previous to the doors opening to the public at 9 PM, and in time to draw straws do determine playing order.
If every member of your sound can’t make it in for the 9PM draw, you need to have at least one official member there early to draw on your behalf.
Keep in mind security has to search every patron and their bags, purses, knapsacks, equipment, etc., before entry, and this takes time and slows down last minute and urgent calls to bump people out of line so your sound can get in.
This is not the norm, we realize this, so get your crew there early to avoid problems.
Many of the sound clashes in our culture are late night events, but as a contestant, please look at this clash different, somewhat like a daytime clash even.
Don’t screw up an opportunity with late attendance no matter what the reason.

🇨🇦HOW CAN I BECOME A FULLY LOADED SPONSOR

Fully Loaded Sound clashes need sponsorship support in order to break even. Even though we promote and market hard and hope for the best, local clashes of this nature draw audiences from 200-500 people, depending on a number of factors which change year to year.
There is no government support, grants, or public funding used to put on a Fully Loaded, we do it because somebody should do it, give our local sounds who spend tens to hundreds of thousand of dollars on dubs, to experience the thrills of victory and agony of defeat which comes from clashing, winning and losing on the national or international stage.
Competition builds champions; Fully Loaded is a good training ground for all sounds who live to clash, and a good title for any sound to have and use in their branding, but sponsorship is the key to making event like these affordable.

🇨🇦MORE ABOUT THE JUDGING AND SCORING SYSTEM

Five judges minimum are judges for FL 2023. The following is an example of tallied scoresheets and per-round eliminations at a past Fully Loaded from the Judgemaster after the 10-sound clash has concluded. FL will follow a similar template as explained previously, with up to 12 sounds vs the 10 sounds here in our 2017 FL.
