The JAMBANA One World Festival Festival will mark its 10-year anniversary this August 5th and 6th with another two fun-filled days of tropical summer programming for all ages in Brampton, Ontario.

JAMBANA One World Festival is Canada’s premiere one-of-a-kind music, arts and food festival celebrating the nation’s growing cultural diversity. Fans of Reggae, Afrobeat, Soca, Dancehall, Gospel, Dance and Comedy can expect to be entertained across two days of jam-packed programming, complemented by delicious food and interesting vendors and activities.

The new venues mark a new chapter for JAMBANA One World Festival and its coordinators. “Brampton is the ‘home’ for JAMBANA,” says Denise Jones, Executive Producer of JAMBANA One World Festival and President of Jones & Jones Productions Ltd. “It’s where the conception of the ideas for the project come from, it’s the home of NFP Kuumba Cultural Association, and it’s the home of Jones & Jones Productions Ltd. – producers of the festival.

“The move to the Rose Theatre and the CAA Centre (formerly Powerade Centre) has allowed us to provide seated venues, as well as concepts that are better suited indoors, and some ‘rain or shine’ assurance for our programming,” continues Jones. “In all, there are more than 13 hours of tropical summer family fun, with the ambiance of ‘let’s get together and feel alright.”
Allan Bucka Jones adds, “At Jones & Jones we have always seen early August as a time to celebrate our emancipation from slavery, hence we have had a number of versions of the ‘bana” celebrations, Brambana, Reggaebana, and for the past nine years, Jambana. We thank God for His blessings and we look forward to our 10 year celebration in Brampton.”

The Rose Theatre is up first, on Sunday August 5th from 7:30pm – 11:30pm, and will feature Reggae Ambassadors Third World Band and global dancehall sensation Govana as special guests, amongst Canada’s premiere Reggae Showcase. The hottest names in the game abound, with JUNO Award winners Kirk Diamond and Korexion, JUNO Award nominee Jay Harmony, 2017’s JAMBANA IDOL winner Hattaman, Montreal’s Kaisha Lee, Toronto’s Visionary, Canada’s Tony Anthony, and the all-female Reggae band Raysolution all taking the stage.

Formerly known as the Powerade Centre, the CAA Centre will enjoy an earlier start and a complementary vibe on Monday August 6th from 1pm – 10pm. Ghana’s GRAMMY Award nominated afropop, dancehall and reggae maestro Stonebwoy is headlining, along with GRAMMY Award nominees Luciano and Marion Hall (formerly Lady Saw), as well as JUNO Award winner Exco Levi, and JUNO Award nominees Ammoye, Blessed and Eyesus.

Both days and locations will feature peripheral activities, vendors and food to interest all, with the CAA Centre including five additional Villages beyond music. Festival goers will enjoy the Domino Village, the Lick-a-Six Domino community tournament, the Food Village, featuring all the flavours and tastes of Jamaica, the Caribbean, Africa, and beyond, the Arts, Travel and Trade Village, a Children’s Village, and the Health Village, including information on health challenges within diverse communities.

“JAMBANA is now in its tenth year and we have been blessed with growth and development over the years,” says Jesse Jones. “We are thankful for the phenomenal support of our Canadian friends and family and an increasing number of friends from across the US and around the world. The Jones & Jones team is delighted to produce this event that is truly fun for the whole family.

ABOUT JAMBANA One World Festival

JAMBANA One World Festival has grown out of years of world class concerts, theatrical productions and festivals, produced by Jones & Jones Productions Ltd, founded by Denise Jones & Allan Bucka Jones in 1987.

The first was the all night Reggae On Yah in 1987 at The Great Hall on Queen Street West, downtown Toronto. All night reggae music from 10pm to 6am, featured the best in Canadian Reggae. The Jam ended with Blue Mountain Coffee and Ackee and Salt Fish.

Reggaebana began in 1993, primarily to infuse reggae music into the predominantly soca and calypso flavoured Caribana Festival. The first Reggaebana featured headliners, included the late great Joseph Hill and Culture, Leroy Sibbles and Willie Williams. The seven day festival started at the legendary El Mocambo, moved to the Opera House and Ontario Place over the years, and featured some of the finest names in Reggae music from Canada and around the globe.

Reggaebana artists on the annual summer concert series include Shaggy – his first Canadian performance, Half Pint, Majek Fashek, Freddie McGregor, Leroy Gibbon, Alton Ellis, Beenie Man, Luciano, Bounty Killer, Tiger, Big Youth, Dean Fraser and Firehouse Crew, Mikey General, JUNO Award winners Carla Marshall and Nana McLean and a host of others.

In 2005, Jones & Jones was invited to produce and promote Air Jamaica Day that had begun in 2004. The event took place in a Toronto parking lot, at the corner of Eglinton and Oakwood in 2005, with an attendance of 1,000, before moving to Gage Park in Brampton on August 7, 2006 and an attendance of 10,000. In 2007 it relocated to the Powerade Centre, also in Brampton, to an attendance of 20,000.

Air Jamaica Day was among the biggest events over the Caribana weekend, pulling one of the largest crowds outside of the parade. JAMBANA was born. The first JAMBANA, presented by Air Jamaica and produced by Jones & Jones Productions, was held at Downsview Park on August 3, 2009 with more than 45,000 individuals attending.

Today JAMBANA One World Festival has evolved tremendously as it represents Canada’s growing cultural diversity in its finest form, representing Canada’s Multicultural Communities through performances by internationally acclaimed bands, artists and JUNO Award winners. Feel rhythms of Reggae, World Beat, Salsa, Asian/South Asian flavours, Soca, R&B, Jazz and Gospel, Dance and Comedy.

Experience the sights, sounds, taste and global diversity through JAMBANA One World Villages. JAMBANA One World Festival is sponsored in part by FACTOR, TD Bank, OMDC, Performance Auto Group, and GLOBAL Television. For more information, please contact:
