#1: TOP INTERNATIONAL MALE 2019 – STYLO G

It’s a compliment to any artist who can beat out the unstoppable Vybz Kartel for ‘Top International Male Artist’ of any year. Yet, this is the case with Jamaica’s Stylo G, who could not ask for a bigger year in dancehall. His ‘Touch Down’ song, sporting a chart-topping remix featuring guest artists Nicki Minaj & Vybz Kartel, was a powerful and critical tune in our international dancehalls during 2018-2019.

Stylo G didn’t stop there, following it up with one of last year’s most creative songs, ‘Dumpling‘. The employment of a laid back tone, excellent lyrical flow, and unique vocal patter, made his music instantly likable. The song features a solid beat with an repetitive Asian or East-Indian sampled loop behind it. When stripped down to its basic elements, there is no reggae component in ‘Dumpling’ except for Stylo G’s vocal patter, so people have no choice but to listen to the lyrical craftsmanship;

‘We out and bad, Stunting, Dem gyal a seh wi sweet like pumpkin,

True wi coil dem like dumpling, Coil dem thick like dumpling…‘.

Stylo G’s songs make people laugh, they are fun to listen to in the dancehalls. Lyrically, he is versatile, but his better known pop styled dancehall hits usually are songs that celebrate the party lifestyle, having your crew, expensive cars, beautiful women, and a lot of cash, bling, weed, and alcohol.

And just like with his ‘Touch Down’ classic with Nicki Minaj/Vybz Kartel buffering, Stylo G released a follow up remix of ‘Dumpling‘, this time featuring popular guest artists Sean Paul and Spice. Unlike ‘Touch Down‘, an official full-length video was released for ‘Dumpling’ featuring the prior-mentioned artists. Stylo G looked great in this video, ready for the party lifestyle.  His songs overall, are friendly on a whole, and is continuing to impress new audiences.

Congratulations to Stylo G, our ReggaeMania.com Award winner for ‘Best Male International Artist of 2019‘.
