#1: TOP (2) CANADIAN FEMALE 2019 – TONYA P

While working at CKLN 88.1 FM, King Sharpe, former Desert Storm selector, brought Tonya Pringle AKA Tonya P to the radio station. When I met her, I immediately knew she would be a star. There was something impressive about her, she was smart, humble, genuine, beautiful and captivating. When I heard her sing, I felt like all the pieces were put together and I understood my intuitions.

This JUNO-nominated Canadian born songstress sings and performs with so much heart and soul. She was born blessed with innate lyrical and songwriting skills, and the ability to deliver good relatable pop-reggae songs, many focused on the emotions and feelings that come with the ups and downs of love. Listening to her music makes one appreciate why she is an evolving artist and supreme reggae lyricist. Still less than 10 years in the business, Tonya P is not only respected and admired by her peers and fellow artists, but she is frequently sought for to voice dub plates for local and international sound crews and systems.
Tonya P’s list of popular songs include ‘Something’s Gotta Give’, ‘Take My Breath Away’, ‘What You Know About Love’, ‘Ease Your Pain’, and ‘Don’t Wanna Go’, all of which can be found on YouTube and Spotify along with other great material. I like the Tonya P sound, but I honestly believe that her best work is yet to come. In life, everything comes down to timing, and my hunch is that as good as she is now, she has still not yet hit prime time, and if that’s a fact, then reggae fans are in for a treat with lots more great Tonya P music to look forward to in the future.

Congratulations to Tonya P, winner of our ReggaeMania.com ‘Tops’ Award for ‘Top Canadian Female Artist of 2019’.
