#1: TRILOGY GLOBAL EDITION PT. 1 @ 188 ORENDA RD. | 10.11.19

♦ Soul Supreme (US) vs. Shashamane Int (Africa) vs.  Super Fresh (Canada)

The ReggaeMania 2019 ‘Tops’ Award for ‘Top Toronto Sound Clash of 2019′ goes to Trilogy-Global Edition, held at Krave in Scarborough. Trilogy had good attendance, maybe 350 people in the place and bonus free parking.

In terms of looking back at this clash, let’s get one thing straight first. The clash was titled ‘Trilogy – Global Edition‘ because it was supposed to be a fight between three Sounds representing three continents, Shashamane Int. (Africa) vs. Soul Supreme (US) vs. Super Fresh (Canada). The problem was – one sound – Sashamane, although there physically, was never really in it from the start. The clash was really a two-way war, there was no leverage.

Sad to say, Shashamane performed like it was their first clash in 10 years, appearing as if they had just ‘woken up’. They were like an ‘intermission’ sound, and people walked out on them chiefly because they were clearly not organized and had no new tunes to showcase for the people, literally nothing from the past five years. Shashamane has had better nights, but on this night, nobody wanted to hear them after the third round, and they were the first sound to exit.

Soul Supreme Sound: LEFT SIDE: Jakes (MC) | RIGHT SIDE: Izzo (DJ-Selecta), Jakes (MC)

Trilogy – Global Edition – was a battle between Soul Supreme (MC Jakes and DJ Izzo) and Super Fresh (MC Prophet, MC Grim Reaper, Double 6). Super Fresh played an impressive first round, and appeared ready for business. They got some forwards early but were threading on dangerous grounds by using a lot of crucial dubs early to get a lead. The Trilogy clash lasted four rounds. The first round was scored half and half between Super Fresh and Soul Supreme, but after that, Soul Supreme led to the end.

Supreme spend little time on Shashamane. Their focus, from the start of the clash, was primarily on Super Fresh. As far as Super Fresh vs. Shashamane was concerned, there wasn’t much of a fight. Soul Supreme was the superior sound from the beginning, and Jakes was consistent in counteracting and dissecting any forwards Super Fresh had earned, and turning them into bigger forwards for Supreme. Super Fresh even switched MCs from Prophet to Grim Reaper (Milo) at one point, but Milo, not dressed properly for the occasion, could not save them.

There would be no tune-fi-tune needed to decide the Trilogy – the victory was clear, Soul Supreme, who destroyed the place with their Buju dubs, were clear winners. Congratulations to Michael Moore and SFD Promotions, presenters of Trilogy Global Edition Pt. 1, and winner of our ReggaeMania 2019 ‘Tops’ Award for ‘Top Sound Clash in Toronto 2019′.
